My sister, Moira and my other "sister" Meredith are making pie for me tonight and I can't wait.
I find pie pretty challenging but that speaks to this point about parenting. It is a grab bag of frustration, joy, indignity and frustration...yes I said that twice. Your children will bring the joy they promise plus a little bit extra that will blow your mind, however the frustration will be doled out with laser like precision and perfectly matched to your worst nightmare and weakness. What may be easy for you is a challenge for another and somehow your kids will find the things that make you the most nuts.
No one is immune. Call it karma. Call it Darwin. It seems we all get a little dose of maddening behavior to keep us on our toes and an eye our children.
Like Pie, abstractions seem easy until you actually have to figure out how to make it. Painting a vase with buds in the morning light on Banner Mountain is much easier than painting the feeling of buds in the morning light on Banner Mountain. I think this one is going in my bathroom.
Would you please take a moment to look at my friend Debbie's Pie made with fresh berries from the farm down the street. The pie and photo are BEAUTIFUL!

Wow. Your painting is lovely and I'd like a slice of that pie right this instant.
