I call my skull-moms my "Beautiful Monsters" because that is what I became once I became a mother; tattooed with a heart on the forehead for everyone to see. The love is so raw yet our culture adorns us with flowers, gems and makeup, perhaps to cover up how primal parenthood makes a lady. Wiping up vomit, snot, piss, shit or blood with a spare hand or sleeve seems secondary to how gross and overwhelming the responsibility of life and death is.
I'm closer to the natural order than I ever thought I could be. I would easily murder to defend my offspring. I never suspected I could be that primal.
It is Monsterous.
And Beautiful.

You're right -- never thought of it that away, but yes, you're right.
